About

Caterina is an Italian journalist, writer and filmmaker, currently working as the Production Manager of the Video Department at The New York Times.

Prior to joining the Times, her independent journalism focused on global development and social justice through a postcolonial lens, and was published on TIME, The Guardian, Al Jazeera English, Marie Claire, La Repubblica, Libération, La Stampa, El Pais, Roads&Kingdoms, The Independent, Zeit Online, Glamour, Slate, Vanity Fair and others.

In 2021, Caterina founded the independent film and media production company KINO•BRIGANTE alongside her husband, Alfredo Chiarappa.

Between 2017 and 2022, she worked as an executive producer at Blink.la for clients like Google, Airbnb, Politico, Chase, Open Table, Thomson Reuters, Oxford University Press, Brookfield Place, Time Out. In 2020/21, she led Blink’s visual coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic for the World Health Organization, with more than 65 productions in 41 countries.

Between 2015 and 2018, Caterina was a photo editor at TIME and TIME’s producer on The Messy Truth VR Experience, an original virtual reality series produced by Van Jones. The pilot, starring Winston Duke of Black Panther, won for "Social Justice" at the Lumiere Awards, and was a finalist at the 71 Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Media".

She is a 2012 graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and received her B.A. in Development Studies and Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London.
